Literacy Alliance of Greater New Orleans

September 19, 2008

Dear Prospective AmeriCorps member,

Thank you for your interest in the Literacy Alliance of Greater New Orleans’s Literacy* AmeriCorps program! The greater New Orleans area suffers from low literacy levels that severely affect both the economic development of the region and the quality of life for its residents. The objective of these positions is to assist literacy providers in promoting individual opportunity and community well-being. We are excited to aid in the rebuilding process post-Katrina through our continued commitment to improving literacy levels in the region. By submitting your application, you are taking the first step in getting things done to change the course of rebuilding in New Orleans!

The How We Serve page on this website will help you understand the specifics of our program and the services that we will provide to our communities. The new applicant documents listed to the right must be complete by all interested applicants. In addition, to the right you will also find a listing of the position descriptions for the various service positions we have available. The 2008-2009 service year begins on September 22, 2008, and we have filled most of our positions. However, we sometimes have part-time positions open during a service year to be sure to check back  to see what is available.

We will begin our recruiting process for the 2009-2010 service year in full-force during February and will begin accepting applications at that time. However, if you are interested in our program feel free to email the program coordinator at any time.

Potential members will be asked to schedule both an interview at our main office located on the Loyola University campus and interviews at the individual program sites, they are interested in serving. A completed application and background release form must be submitted to Sarah Fischer by email ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ),  fax (504-865-7088) or in person before we can begin to process your application.

Please consider joining us in becoming an integral part of rebuilding the city of New Orleans by increasing literacy levels though your service and dedication!

Sincerely,

Sarah G. Fischer
