Participate in all Literacy*AmeriCorps member development meetings and training opportunities
Participate monthly in service projects with other AmeriCorps team members and design a service project of your own
Serve on one of five Member Committees and meet monthly with this committee
Contribute as a team member and become a team leader at times
Other duties pertaining to Literacy*AmeriCorps goals as assigned
Duties:
Provide instructional and tutorial support for adults in literacy, GED, ESL, children, youth, or family literacy programs.
Assist with administrative duties, such as student related data entry, maintaining student files, calling to follow up with students, preparing/administering/grading standardized tests, and other tutoring and student related activities.
Depending on program focus, may help with parenting skills or English as a Second Language training.

Ability to work with a team and independently
Interest in adult education and community service
Ability to work well with diverse populations
Creativity, commitment, and problem-solving skills
Strong communication skills
Literacy education experience helpful, though not required
Excellent computer skills including word processing and database experience
Must be at least 17 years of age, and a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
GED or high school diploma by end of program year

Our program is a FREE service that offers adults the opportunity to learn communication skills in English---reading, writing, and speaking.The group sessions which are available to all adults are offered in a casual learning environment that allows students to advance at their own pace.
YES!, the oldest provider of Adult Basic Education in the Greater New Orleans area, provides classroom instruction 5 days a week in three-hour blocks at the Main Branch of the New Orleans Public Library. Students receive a combination of individual, group, and self-guided instruction in reading, writing, math, and computer literacy provided by volunteer and staff instructors. There is also a Student Services Coordinator to help students access social support services.
