Teaching and Tutoring

The most fundamental, yet most rewarding, mission for all Literacy*Americorps members is teaching and tutoring. All members tutor small groups of students on a one-on-one basis, and many members also teach larger classes. The service sites will provide guidance, support, and proper materials to help their L*AC members accomplish their missions. There are many unique teaching experiences available for all L*AC members. Most teaching, however, can be found in five different categories: Adult Basic Education (ABE)/GED test preparation; English as a Second Language (ESL); Family Literacy; Youth Literacy; and Children's Literacy.
