Training for Teachers and Program Managers!COABE/ProLiteracy Regional Institute Friday, December 12 at the UNO Lindy Boggs Conference Center (at UNO not Loyola!). 3 all day workshops so great, youll have a hard time choosing among them. Register by December 3 at www.proliteracy.org Lost your GED in the flood? There was a changeover in the companies that manage the GED database for the state, and a few records after 1997 were lost in the exchange. The good news is that most records are available and will continue to be available into perpetuity. However, if you have a learner in your program who needs a duplicate copy of their scores and they are not on file, Senator Landrieus local office did the research on this issue and will be glad to help work through the process to get it done. Thanks Wes! One Book One New Orleans 2008Many thanks to our literacy champion partner, the Young Leadership Council for this fabulous fourth year with the concluding author event last Thursday evening. Tom Piazza, author of this years recently published pick City of Refuge spoke to an enthusiastic crowd (including many Dillard students) on Loyola's campus and signed books after the event. Everyone agrees that Tom makes a personal connection with everyone he meets. He was especially moved to know that for some emerging readers, his book might be the first novel they own and read. We will arrange an event for Tom with the literacy community after the holidays. Many thanks to the AmeriCorps members (and former members) for their invaluable help with managing the author event and keep on reading the book in your classrooms. The Teacher/Tutor guide designed specifically for literacy through GED level learners is now available on this website. Click on the Partners page and then One Book One New Orleans.
