Baptist Community Ministries

Baptist Community Ministries (BCM) is one of the largest private foundations in Louisiana with a commitment to the greater New Orleans region and to the attainment of a more healthy community for the people living here.

Louisiana Department of Education

The Louisiana Department of Education- Adult and Family Literacy Services administers the Adult Education program that provides instruction to adults who are sixteen years of age and older, not enrolled in the K-12 system, and have less than a high school education. The purposes of the program are to allow these individuals to continue their education to at least the level of completion of secondary school and to make available to them an opportunity to acquire basic literacy skills necessary to function in society and become more employable, productive, and responsible citizens.

Louisiana Department of Social Services

The Louisiana Department of Social Services provides support for adult basic education programs through funding instructional opportunities for youth and TANF eligible adults.

The McCormick Foundation

The McCormick Foundation is a nonprofit organization committed to strengthening our free, democratic society by investing in children, communities and country. Through its five grantmaking programs, Cantigny Park and Golf, and three world-class museums, the Foundation helps build a more active and engaged citizenry. It was established as a charitable trust in 1955, upon the death of Colonel Robert R. McCormick, the longtime editor and publisher of the Chicago Tribune. The McCormick Foundation is one of the nation’s largest charities, with $1.2 billion in assets.

Starbucks COAST Fund

Following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, Starbucks Coffee Company and its Foundation made a regional commitment to support both the immediate relief and long-term community revitalization efforts in the affected areas. As part of that commitment, the Starbucks COAST Fund launched a three-year grant program in April 2007 through community foundations to support deserving local nonprofits that go out of their way to make a difference in the Gulf Coast area.

Greater New Orleans Foundation

The Greater New Orleans Foundation helps donors reach their philanthropic goals by establishing named charitable funds. These funds are pooled and invested together so the income provides a vital and growing resource for our region. As a community foundation, GNOF is a charitable organization that is supported by donors and governed by citizens to ensure that community needs are met.Our partners are making it possible for GNOF to have a major impact on key issues, including community revitalization and housing, education, and workforce development.

Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations (LANO)

The Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations (LANO) is a statewide network of nonprofits, foundations, corporations, and individuals from every region of the state. With over 1,000 members, LANO’s mission is to strengthen, promote and build the capacity of Louisiana’s nonprofit sector through education, advocacy and member services. LANO provides leadership, resources and forums around the state through our corporate, branch and field offices. We support our members through membership benefits, discounts, trainings, public policy efforts, and organizational capacity building.

Louisiana Association of Public, Community and Adult Education (LAPCAE)

Louisiana Association of Public, Community and Adult Education (LAPCAE) was formed to promote parish and state educational opportunities for all persons. It provides in advancing basic education of adults through unifying the profession, encouraging research, communicating with the public, conducting professional development conferences and activities and communicating the interests and needs of LAPCAE members to the Louisiana State Department of Education, the legislature, and the general public.

ProLiteracy

ProLiteracy is a nonprofit international literacy organization based in Syracuse, NY, that was formed by the 2002 merger of Laubach Literacy International and Literacy Volunteers of America, Inc. ProLiteracy is the oldest and largest nongovernmental literacy organization in the world. It achieves its mission, championing the life-changing benefits of literacy for adults and their families, by sponsoring educational programs that help adults and their families acquire the literacy practices and skills they need to function more effectively in their daily lives.

Commission on Adult Basic Education (COABE)

The Commission on Adult Basic Education (COABE) is organized to advance national and international adult education and literacy opportunities for all persons. Its mission is to provide leadership, communication, professional development and advocacy for adult education and literacy practitioners in order to advance quality services for all adult learners.

National Institute for Literacy

The National Institute for Literacy, a federal agency, provides leadership on literacy issues, including the improvement of reading instruction for children, youth, and adults. In consultation with the U.S. Departments of Education, Labor, and Health and Human Services, the Institute serves as a national resource on current, comprehensive literacy research, practice, and policy.

Literacy USA

Literacy USA promotes and strengthens literacy coalitions as they create literate communities, thereby enhancing the quality of the lives of individuals and the vitality of our society.
