Recruiting and Screening

The first step in connecting individuals to good jobs is a proactive recruiting strategy that reaches deep into communities to find people who are not tied into the formal networks of government and business entities that have access to the jobs.

  • Marketing: A marketing strategy uses mass media to attract residents to various training and employment opportunities through a central referral hotline.
  • Who Does the Recruiting and Screening?
  • Referral Partner Network: faith-based and community organizations who serve diverse populations of residents (ex. TCA, Goodwill, Odyssey House)
  • Community Recruiters ("Walker Talkers") put in the extra effort to contact and refer hard-to-reach participants in face to face networking and promotion.
  • Screening: Pre-screening is done by Referral Partners and Community Recruiters to determine a resident's preliminary interest in the promoted industry, basic skill levels and other needs or barriers to employment.
  • What Placement Options are Available?
  • Based on interest and skills, participants are referred directly to Community and Technical College training programs, employment opportunities or continuing education through the Bridge Classes or adult education programs
