More About Foundation Skills:
Bridge Project Participants become a learning community and during the foundation skills component, they learn where they are academically and work to improve their academic skills or refresh their skills. They leave with a confidence in their academic ability and a thorough knowledge of where their academic skills meet their career goals and a plan for continuing education after the class.
Participants spend a minimum of two hours per day to build foundation skills in reading, writing, communications and math needed for success in the workplace or continuing education.Various standardized and informal assessments are utilized during the information sessions and first few standardized and informal assessments are utilized during the information session and first few days of class to accurately gauge the skill levels of the participants and plan their educational activities over the length of the class. Work Keys assessments are administered mid-way through the course to give participants an extra tool in obtaining an employment and for employers to use for hiring. Standardized post-testing instruments are used to measure gains at the end of the class when the participants have received about 35 hours of instruction in reading and math. Participants are given a Continuing Education Plan which lists their current strengths and assets, areas that need further work and a plan for achieving those goals. |
